It’s the Future, Baby: Bringing Your Business into the Digital Age

However you feel about robots taking over our jobs and AI writing the screenplays for all your favorite shows, there’s no denying that if you want to stay relevant and successful in the modern age, you simply have to go with the flow and embrace the digital transformation that’s already taking the world by storm. No, that doesn’t mean you should replace your whole sales team with chatbots. But you should know what’s out there and take advantage of tools that can help your business go to new places and reach new heights. Here are five ways to get with the digital program.

  1. Get a chatbot

…But you just said… OK, yes, we know what we said. And we’re not telling you to replace your whole sales team with chatbots—just to install one on your website so visitors can get immediate answers to their questions. In fact, a chatbot can help your team by answering those common, time-consuming questions that your salespeople are tired of dealing with. After that, it can put potential customers in touch with a real person to talk to.

  1. Surrender to the social media craze

If you want to be in the room where it happens, that room is social media. Not all platforms are created equal, so do your research to figure out which platform your target customers are using and which one is best suited to the type of products or services you offer. If you can afford a social media manager, great. If not, you might try assigning it to one of your internet-savvy employees or sharing social media responsibilities across your team.

  1. Invest in digital advertising

People don’t go for walks anymore. Or drives. They just stay at home and stare at screens all day. OK, maybe things aren’t quite that extreme, but the truth is most people spend a lot more time indoors staring at their devices these days than they used to. So if you want to target them where they’re at, a digital ad campaign is much more effective than a flier or billboard they’re never going to see. Digital advertising is its own beast though, so you may want to hire a digital marketing team to help with that, or at least spend a good amount of time doing research before you dive in headfirst.

  1. Become a master of email marketing

What if we told you you could use email—yes, that boring, pesky electronic messaging system that turned Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan from sworn enemies to a match made in heaven—to create a loyal community and convert interested customers into lifelong fans? Email marketing can be a great way to widen your reach and boost sales. But again, this isn’t just something you can pick up at random. Consider investing (either time or money-wise) to get your email marketing up to par.

  1. Give your website a makeover

How long has it been since you took a long hard look at your website? Is it easy to use? Can people figure out how to make a purchase or get in touch with you just from glancing at your homepage? In the digital age, your website is your storefront, which means you can’t be too careful in making sure it’s nice to look at, easy to use, and effective at closing sales.

With these practices firmly in place, you’ll be ready to embrace the digital age, full speed ahead!
